Monroe Fire Department public information officer Bill Owens said he believes the brush fire off Mountain Creek Church Road in Walton County on Sunday was a controlled burn that got out of hand.
“It burned 20 acres or so. Walton (County Fire Rescue) extinguished most of the fire and Monroe (Fire Department) assisted with mutual aid,” Owens said. “Ga Forestry was brought in to take over and they plowed a fire break around the fire.”
