The City of Monroe is looking to make two cars in its fleet available to the Monroe-Walton County Airport as courtesy cars. The issue was discussed at the Tuesday night meeting and will be on the voting agenda next week. This is another step in efforts to foster more use of the airport. A fuel farm is also in the process of being established to allow visiting planes to refuel while passing through.
Last year, five people were appointed to a newly-created commission to help guide the city in making upgrades to make better use of the airport.
Mayor Greg Thompson pointed out, however, that the courtesy cars were surplus and not new cars purchased specifically for the airport.
Two of the Monroe-Walton County Airport Commission members, Larry Fussel and John Reiner, were on hand for Tuesday’s meeting. The other three members are Rodney Etheredge, Bill Stone and Bill Scott.
