Crowds turn out for Walton County BBQ Festival

Walton County had its first ever BBQ festival Saturday in support of Communities in Schools. RVs and cooking rigs turned up Friday, began firing up the cookers and the crowds came out in support. There was plenty of food, fun and festivities and most important, funds were raised for Walton County’s Communities in Schools.

At the national Communities in Schools Unsung Heroes Awards this year, Walton County’s Communities in Schools was recognized for Monroe Area High School, which was named a School of Excellence. For the 2012-2013 school year, Monroe exceeded the state graduation rate, increasing to 74.2 percent, an example of the benefits of the CIS program.
