Christmas Day wreck in Walton County sends two people to the hospital

A wreck on Georgia 81 just south of June Ivey/Bently Road in Walton County on Christmas Day sent two people to the hospital.

According to a spokesperson from the Georgia Department of Public Safety, a 77-year-old Cleveland, Ga. woman and a 29-year-old Bethlehem man were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville after their two vehicles collided on Georgia 81 at about 2:29 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2016. A 6-year-old child who was a passenger in the rear seat of a 2008 Ford Fusion, driven by Jonathan Michael Dean, 29, of Bethlehem, was not injured and was not transported to the hospital. Dean, and Beverly Knorr, 77, of Cleveland, were both transported by Walton County EMS.

Georgia DPS report that Dean was traveling South on Georgia 81 and Knorr, in a 2002 Prius, was traveling north when, for some unknown reason, the vehicle Dean was driving left the west shoulder of the road, overcorrected, and when it re-entered the roadway it began to spin. It crossed over the center line where the right side of it collided head on with the Prius driven by Knorr. The Prius was forced off the east shoulder of Georgia 81 where it struck an embankment before coming to a stop.

Georgia DPS report that neither drugs or alcohol appear to be contributing factors to this crash and seatbelts were in use by all occupants. Charges, however, are pending.

  1. As of 1/7/17 Beverly Knorr remains in a medically induced coma. She is going to have a long road to recovery. Please keep the Knorr family and the Dean family in prayer.
