WCSO interrupts burglary in progress at gas station overnight

Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies came up on a burglary in progress in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Jan. 11, 2017. Officials said the attempted burglary took place at the Shell gas station at H.D. Atha and Highway 138 in Walton County.

“We have one person in custody,” WCSO Chief Deputy Keith Brooks said. “The others ran, but we are in the process of identifying them and hope to have more in custody soon.”

Several people noticed deputies searching the woods overnight and a heavier law enforcement presence at H.D. Atha Elementary School in the morning. Brooks confirmed that a search was conducted on the three suspects who had “bush bonded,” and said it was just a precautionary measure to have extra deputies at the school on the heels of the overnight search.
