Catherine Paris Melton, age 95, of Monroe passed away on January 31, 2017. She was born on July 5, 1921, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Mary Ellen and Charles Thomas Paris. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan, and her two brothers, Charles Thomas Paris, Jr. and William Andrew Paris.
She graduated from the University of Georgia with a B. S., a master’s degree, and a 6th year degree in education. She taught 4th grade for several years before returning to the University to get a master’s degree in library education. She was the librarian at Monroe Primary School until she retired in 1983. Catherine remained active in her retirement years. She was a member of St. Anna’s Catholic Church, worked at FISH for a number of years, enjoyed playing bridge, reading, quilting, and going to the gym. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Carol Cernogorsky (Steve), Paris Bryant (Sidney), and son, Tom Melton (Stephanie); granddaughters, Connie Bargeron and Dayna Melton; grandsons, Jack Morris, Jacob Bryant, Daniel Bryant, and Daniel Melton; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, at St. Anna’s Catholic Church in Monroe with reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anna’s Catholic Church building fund, Monroe, GA.
The family wishes to thank Longleaf Hospice and Clearview Regional Medical Center, for making Catherine’s final days as comfortable as possible.
