Walton County Rises Up in support of the Atlanta Falcons

Walton County took Gov. Nathan Deal’s proclamation to heart, turning out all over Friday in their red and black Falcons attire in support of the Atlanta Falcons’ trip to Super Bowl LI.

Support went out from all over the county,  some of it from further away than just Walton County – much further away.

Brodie Malcom, great-granddaughter of former Falcons head coach Norm Van Brocklin, is bringing “a little good luck to the team from a special Falcons fan in heaven,” according to her mother, Sara Malcom. Pictures were posted on Facebook of Brodie wearing an Atlanta Falcons hat and shirt – but it was not just any shirt.

“Brodie isn’t just wearing Falcons gear, she is dressed like a Falcons Head Coach,” Malcom said, going on to say that the shirt Brodie is wearing is the same one her great-grandfather has on in the attached black and white picture of him.

Although they never met him, Malcom says she hopes Brodie’s support of her great-grandfather’s team makes him proud. Van Brocklin coached the Falcons from 1968 to 1974 before retiring to his Social Circle pecan farm. According to Wikipedia, he died in 1983 of a heart attack at the age of 57. So Brodie and her family hope that by wearing his shirt, and pledging her support for her great-grandfather’s team, the Walker Park student is giving the Atlanta Falcons an edge that the New England Patriots may not have.

Other support for the Falcons was evident at Liberty First Bank in Monroe with the red and black attire worn by employees Friday.
