Nicer Muhanna, 44, of Winder, was lifeflighted to an Atlanta hospital after he was extricated from the black Kia Forte he was a front seat passenger in when it ran off the road and overturned on Youth Monroe Road. Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton said that the driver, Ruth Muhanna, 36, as well as a baby and 5-year-old in the back seat received minor injuries and were transported to Clearview Regional Medical Center.
Barton said that the vehicle had been traveling west on Youth Monroe Road when it ran off the north shoulder, overcorrected and then overcorrected again before traveling back off the north shoulder, striking an embankment and overturning. The passenger who was lifeflighted had not been wearing a seatbelt. The driver said her husband had unbuckled his seatbelt to attend to the children in the back of the vehicle and she lost control of the vehicle while focusing on what was happening with the children in the back seat.
Barton said the driver will be charged with distracted driving and failure to maintain lane, and the passenger will be charged with not wearing a seatbelt.
